Great Advice For Keeping Your Roof In Terrific Shape

Shingles aren't just a nasty disease, and gutters aren't just something you find in a bowling alley. There's a lot you should know when it comes to roofing, and this article is the perfect place to learning. In the following paragraphs, you'll find some top notch roofing tips and tricks.

While damaged shingles are sometimes the cause of leaks, it is also a good idea to check with your roof's foundation as well. Dry rot in siding can lead to leaks. Look at every entry point, even rotten wood, to see if the problem can be solved for good.

Visit your attic a few times a year. Doing this can help you to find a small problem that may exist with your roof before it becomes a larger and more expensive problem. A good idea is to take a look at the change of each season so that you do it at least four times each year.

When meeting with a professional roofer, ask to see a copy of their liability insurance. Any trustworthy roofer should have copies readily available. If they have a hard time providing you with their papers, they're probably not someone you want to work with. When you're trusting someone with your roof, you want all your bases covered.

Any salesman that has to use too much pressure to make a sale should be considered suspect and you should look for another. Such shysters can be very aggressive, so do what is necessary to shut them down.

Do not choose a roofer based solely on price. Sure, cheaper prices may be good for your pocket, but it could be an indication here that you are not going to get the quality work you need. Check out the BBB to find out if a potential roofer is someone you can trust.

Find out about roofing warranties from your roofer. Roof replacement and repair can be expensive, so you should always choose a contractor that offers warranties for the work. Professional contractors usually offer full warranties on new roofs or roof replacements, but they may not on repairs. Always get a copy of your warranty when the work is done.

Be sure to inspect the valleys on your roof if you are experiencing a leak anywhere in your home. A valley is where two corners meet, forming a ridge. It is here where water or snow can pool, creating erosion of the roofing materials here faster than anywhere else. Check the tiles there first to make sure they are not damaged or for any debris that may be blocking drainage.

If you are trying to figure out the cause of a leak, but the problem is not obvious, you should look at the shingles in the area very closely. If they are nailed down incorrectly, are not secure or are even just slightly cracked, they could be the cause of the leak.

Maintaining your roof is not all that fun, yet it is something that you can't avoid if you want to keep your home in good shape. Use the advice mentioned in the article above to take care of your roofing needs so that you can save both time and money. Your efforts will be well worth it in the long run.
